With the weather forecast for Saturday showing rain most of the day, Redline Time Attack posted on their website that it was a Rain or Shine event.  “Gates will open at 7am for racers and 9am for spectators. We will stay on schedule this weekend, regardless of the weather.” – Redline

Sunday’s forecast was much better and everyone came out to support the event.

Sunday started out gloomy but the sun eventually shined thru and made it a hot day for everyone to enjoy.

Carolina Motorsports Park – Saturday ReCap

August 8th, 2009

After the first full day of official practice on the 2.3 mile Carolina Motorsports Park circuit, we have a stacked field of competitors across all three Classes of competition.

In the Buddy Club Street Class, we have Michael Ostby in the GTMotoring/Challenge Acura RSX with a 1:51.7, closely followed by Gregory Haye in the GTMotoring/Challenge Honda S2000 with a 1:52.9 and rounding out the top three in Street Class is. Jeff Bender in the TriState Racing Nissan 350z at 1:53.388. We’re missing two Division Champs from Nashville, Doug Wind and Tony Wiesenhahn (Neon SRT-4 and Subuar WRX, respectively), but both our expected to be in attendance tomorrow to defend their victories from just a few weeks ago.

In Modified Class, James Elterman currently sits on top after afternoon practice with a 1:41.9 in the Takata Time Attack Subaru STI, followed by Sharif Abdelbaset at 1:42.9. Ross Miller, driving the PTuning Scion tC was able to lay down a 1:46.211, before a mechanical required him to be towed in from the circuit. We hope the crew at PTuning will be able to get the tC running in top shape by tomorrow afternoon.

The Unlimited Class competition is shaping up to be a battle tomorrow! The AMS Performance EVO X, with Mark Daddio behind the wheel, has recorded a fast lap of 1:34.3. On an unofficial hand time, Billy Johnson, in the FX Motorsports Development/Cricket Wireless Acura NSX locked in a 1:33.3.

We know both of these cars have plenty of capability left in them, so the track record, currently in the 1:32’s, is certainly in danger of being broken. The crew at World Racing has had to wrench on the crews “Dual Winged Beast” last night and into the morning to get the car running again. Chris Rado was able to lower his best time down to a 1:38 lap time, but we certainly expect him to drop a couple more seconds tomorrow.**

For those of you who can make it down tomorrow for the racing action you’ll be in for a treat!
