[NEWS] Round 1: Streets of Long Beach Kicked Off the Tenth Season of Formula DRIFT Presented by GoPro to a Sold Out Crowd

April 15th, 2013 by Robert

Long Beach, Calif. – April 13, 2013 – Formula DRIFT presented by GoPro begins the tenth season of competition with Round 1: Streets of Long Beach. Daijiro Yoshihara in the America’s Tire / Falken Tire Nissan S13 takes the victory and leads the championship points chase.

Round 1: Streets of Long Beach started off the tenth season of Formula DRIFT presented by GoPro to a sell out crowd. Fans were treated to a vendor village, Slammed Society car show, a display of vehicles from the Targa Trophy and a skateboard demo from the Action Sports Kids Foundation of Long Beach.

“To start our ten year anniversary season in front of a sell out crowd sets a great tone for the season to come,” stated Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “We owe it all to our drivers, sponsors and the fans for helping to make the Series what it is today. We look forward to another exciting season.”

Experience became the deciding factor with all three spots on the podium being found by ten-year veterans who also are past champions of the Series. The 2009 Champion Chris Forsberg in the NOS Energy Drink / Hankook Nissan 370Z was too much for Chelsea DeNofa and earned third place. The final battle pitted 2010 Formula DRIFT champion Vaughn Gittin, Jr in the Monster Energy / Nitto Tire Ford Mustang against the 2011 champion Daijiro Yoshihara who also was the number one qualifier. On their first run Gittin made a small mistake at the hairpin giving Yoshihara the edge. A consistent second run by Yoshihara secured his victory giving him the first victory of the season.

“This was my first time to win in Long Beach. I’ve been on the podium a few times, but winning here was one of my goals and I was able to achieve that today, “said Daijiro Yoshihara, winner of Round 1: Streets of Long Beach. “I also qualified first so this was the best way to start off the season, but it is still a long way to another Championship. I hope to win another Championship this season.” Formula DRIFT presented by GoPro continues at Round 2: Road to the Championship at Road Atlanta on May 10-11, 2013.

July 28th, 2012 by Elusive Media

Last year we were dealt a heat wave, this year temperatures were kept on the comfortable side but with a chance of rain all weekend. Even with the weather, this didn’t stop riders from all over to show of their pride and joy. Along with thousands if bikes roll into the fairgrounds, Carlisle always has a great line up of special guests, bike builds, giveaways, and bands. This year was no different, as Monster Energy Freestyle MX puts on a stunt show that has to be seen in person, where they put on 9 shows of this extreme sport on all weekend long. For anyone into wrestling Half Pint Brawlers were there to entertain along with the talented StarBoyz. If that doesn’t keep ya around the fairgrounds, giveaways from ipad, Kawasaki Ninja, Harley-Davison, and a 7 day cruise sure will. Not only did the bikes fill your ears, live bands kept the music flowing all weekend along including Charm City Devils which rocked the stage Saturday night.

Look forward to another successful weekend at Carlisle! Enjoy the photos!

Monster Energy’s off road truckers McGrath, Huseman Greaves back in TORC action Sat/Sun

The M-claw logo should rock the Pro 2 amp; Pro 4×4 division podiums as Wisconsin local Johnny Greaves leads the Monster assault at the legendary Crandon track

CORONA, Calif., (June 18, 2009) – Monster Energy off road racers are going to get a big dose of  ‘Whoaa!’ this weekend, namely Crandon International Raceway first-timer Jeremy McGrath (Monster/Toyota), when the gate drops, so to speak, on the off road Mecca’s famous “Land Rush Start” and the king of supercross finds himself battling side-by-each for the first turn with the rest of the 15-truck PRO2WD field at rounds five and six of the 2009 Traxxas TORC Truck Series, presented by AMSOIL.

“I’ve heard a bit about it from the other drivers, seen it on TV of course and honestly can’t wait to get after it,” said McGrath, who should draw some added fans from the region that followed him during his 1990s run of supercross wins at the nearby Minneapolis Metrodome. “(I’m) hoping it’ll be a bit less painful to have a truck door up against mine versus a set of handlebars stuck in my ribs (laughter).”

While McGrath (currently 3rd overall in his PRO2WD Toyota) will no doubt draw some additional fans to the already popular facility dubbed off road racing’s “Big House,” it’ll be local Wisconsinite Johnny Greaves (Monster/Toyota/Potawatomi), running 2nd overall in the PRO 4×4 Truck standings, that’ll fill the most seats. A two-time winner of the Crandon “Brush Run” (Crandon’s 1.25-mile short course race, which’ll be run this weekend), Greaves hopes to re-create his recent top-of-the-box efforts from 2003 and ’06.

“Nothing like coming home to race Crandon,” said Greaves. “This’ll be a great chance for me to make up some points on Rick.”

The “Rick” Greaves speaks of is Monster Energy’s Rick Huseman (Monster/Toyota). Huseman has dominated the opening California and Texas rounds of the PRO 4×4 class, winning three races in four rounds and leading Greaves by 15 points (99-77). In addition, Huseman is the leading driver the Oakley Bomb Run Award for the fastest lap time of the race.

The Monster Energy-backed racers contesting the Traxxas TORC Truck Series will be in action this weekend at Crandon International Raceway in Crandon, Wis. (June 20-21). For more information on the series check out its website at: www.torcseries.com
